Ko Wai Au - Reflection/Response
- In 3 sentences, describe how you feel about your artwork you created?
I felt like the warm colours I chose really represented my family and where part of us lives, in Vanuatu which is a tropical island. I liked the colours I used in the background but didn’t really like how light the blue was. My artwork is bright and vibrant also it is loud and proud
- Describe the colour schemes you chose to use…
I used warm colours for my koru and 3 important things to me so pink, red, orange and yellow. Then for the background I used cold colours like blue, green, purple and then it was back to warm colours for the border.
- Maori motif and designs were an integral part of this artwork. Describe how you chose to use poutama, tapatoru and koru in your artwork…
I use Tapatoru as the border on my art. Tapatoru is a maori design that is basically a triangle with a mini triangle inside I chose to do this design all the way around. For the koru I did one taller one for my dad because he is older than my mum and then there is my mum the slightly smaller one in the middle I put a koru with 4 heads on it to represent me and my siblings at the top is the oldest and on the bottom is the youngest so it goes Finn, me (Savannah), Anika and then Sebastian. Then I have another koru in the middle that is standing alone that represents my half brother Josh who is 20
- What is the aspect of your artwork you are most proud of and why?
I am most proud of the oru because they represent my family and the support me a lot, I would be nothing without them
- If you could change one aspect of your artwork for next time, what would it be and why?
It would probably have to be the music note shaped as a koru because the details were too small and the pastel just made them look like a blob of colour.
- Who is one other person in Rm 10 that you consider did an exemplary job of their artwork? What are your reasons why?
I would have to say Imogen because she chose perfect colours and details and all of her things go together plus she had such little time to do it but still got it done on time!
Tapatoru the maori name for triangle. This design is a taniko pattern with two
triangles upside down and a diamond on the outside, the colours are bold and
the use of layer style effects is very beautiful.
