Strike Performance #itwasloud!

                Strike!

Screenshot 2017-03-23 at 14.46.11.png

“Bang!”
The show had started. As they hit the drums their arms looked like spaghetti, well at least very alive spaghetti! I felt the ground vibrate underneath me. I gazed in owe as they played their rhythm, the strike group started to play a song called a tropical rainstorm and let me tell you from personal experience it sounded like a tropical rainstorm! I looked around to see everyone had a smile on their face that’s when I felt it a smile crept up my face. I have always been interested in percussion and hope one day I will be able to try it out with a group like strike. I felt jealousy for the people who got chosen but also felt happy for them at the same time! “Thump, thump, thump, bang, ling a ling!” went the drums and the symbols as the strike group played a piece of music. One of my favourite parts was when they used fire to make music it was so cool! I hope I will get to see strike in action again another year they were so awesome!!

Feedback: Wow Savannah it is amazing. I love it. For next time you might be able to add some similes. Well done.

Room 10 reading- Mosaic Magic

Mosaic Magic By Rayma Ritchie
Part 4 Number 1 1993

1. Find 3 google images of mosaic art that inspire you? Where in Hawke’s Bay could you purchase materials and resources to work with this medium?
My images are at the bottom!

2. What information can you find out about Frederick Maning - an early European settler on the Hokianga Harbour.
He was strong and tall. He was an important man and was a writer. He was also present when the treaty of Waitangi was signed

3. Pg 23 - what planning needs to happen before the mosaic work begins?
She had to do some research on him and find out the important parts of his life. Then she had to plan where everything would go
4. How are bodies made?
She makes the limbs first and then adds in the bigger parts

5. After completing the mosaic, there is one final stage to complete the artwork that her husband does for her. What is this?
He makes a frame for the artwork
6. Have you ever completed any artworks in this medium?
Yes once my mum thought it would be fun to complete a mosaic table so we did a table top mosaic that was based on nature so the were butterflies and ladybugs and even caterpillars

7. One question you have for the artist that you are wondering about…
Why does she do mosaics and not other types of art?

Ko Wai Au #Artrules

Ko Wai Au - Reflection/Response
  1. In 3 sentences, describe how you feel about your artwork you created?
I felt like the warm colours I chose really represented my family and where part of us lives, in Vanuatu which is a tropical island. I liked the colours I used in the background but didn’t really like how light the blue was. My artwork is bright and vibrant also it is loud and proud

  1. Describe the colour schemes you chose to use…
I used warm colours for my koru and 3 important things to me so pink, red, orange and yellow. Then for the background I used cold colours like blue, green, purple and then it was back to warm colours for the border.

  1. Maori motif and designs were an integral part of this artwork. Describe how you chose to use poutama, tapatoru and koru in your artwork…
I use Tapatoru as the border on my art. Tapatoru is a maori design that is basically a triangle with a mini triangle inside I chose to do this design all the way around. For the koru I did one taller one for my dad because he is older than my mum and then there is my mum the slightly smaller one in the middle I put a koru with 4 heads on it to represent me and my siblings at the top is the oldest and on the bottom is the youngest so it goes Finn, me (Savannah), Anika and then Sebastian. Then I have another koru in the middle that is standing alone that represents my half brother Josh who is 20

  1. What is the aspect of your artwork you are most proud of and why?
I am most proud of the oru because they represent my family and the support me a lot, I would be nothing without them

  1. If you could change one aspect of your artwork for next time, what would it be and why?
It would probably have to be the music note shaped as a koru because the details were too small and the pastel just made them look like a blob of colour.

  1. Who is one other person in Rm 10 that you consider did an exemplary job of their artwork? What are your reasons why?
I would have to say Imogen because she chose perfect colours and details and all of her things go together plus she had such little time to do it but still got it done on time!https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKm8xp-qI4cHpl58dtoX1KkoD4LFHhKx83cvK7KChJYhqosBXrM0_S65IOWkwFI-dcpuY49SZDtRAU9YIpW2qmueFJU_bYZWzx8tjLuDV8466GruJ6MJISMXdWSvCLFnAR1RGi963LeY0/s320/tapatoru2.jpg

[KORU2.jpg]

Tapatoru the maori name for triangle. This design is a taniko pattern with two
triangles upside down and a diamond on the outside, the colours are bold and
the use of layer style effects is very beautiful.http://www.tearawa.iwi.nz/files/tearawa/tearawa-logo.jpg

Maori Symbols - Circle or Disk maori designs

Koru (spiral)
These Maori Designs are the Koru is the Beginning of Life. The Maori have taken their symbolism from the unfurled new leaf of the silver fern. It depicts new beginnings, growth and harmony. New Zealand is the home of the most beautiful ferns in the world

This design represents the taniko patterns the diamond, shape, the triangle
shape, and the koru inside a triangle represents the well-being of one's journey
through life

Maths Reflection

So far Maths has been hard and yes it is driving me crazy. My best subject in maths is probably cubed and squared numbers and my worst would have to be problem solving. I find problem solving hard because I am not good at maths and don't have many strategies. I am still in the learning pit because I feel like I am not trying my best in maths problem solving. To climb out I need to try my best and give problem solving my all. I hope I get out!

Savannah's best free writing piece

In room 10 we have been doing free writing each morning here is my best piece I think I have done!!

Topic- How to save and earn money
Do you want or need to save and earn money then your a reading the right thing, here is a few tips on how to earn and save money as a kid. Earning money. A good tip is to before you start get a jar and write a goal of how much money you need and when you want it by, for example I want 100 dollars by July 20th. A great way to earn money is to do chores around the house and have your parents pay you! Another one is to earn half of what you need and get your parents to give you the other half (if they agree!!) you could also help out other people like your neighbours. If none of these appeal to you try to sell things like old clothes or lemonade or baking.

Saving money
If you are trying to save money and not spend it don’t put it in a purse or wallet, you could keep it in a jar and tell your parents to look after it or hide it so that you don’t know where it is. You could also find loose change around the house and put it into your jar. It actually makes you earn money really fast I mean I only started yesterday and already have 6.00 worth of loose change and remember it doesn't have to be just coins it can be paper money to. Put your jar somewhere you won’t be tempted to take money out of it.  And remember save the money!!!
