I have chosen to do my report on high jump. high jump is a very popular athletics sport and is also quite intense at times. There are loads of different techniques and materials you will need to be able to do high jumping.

First let’s talk about different warm up techniques.
The first warm up you can do to get you ready for high jump is one that helps you to develop a good J (run up/in) first you start in a corner about 8 meters away from the mat. Next you run towards the matt curving into a sort of semicircle. Make sure that when you start take big strides towards the mate and as you get closer run in smaller steps once you are in front of the mat stop. You should be facing the mat side on. Repeat this until you feel comfortable enough with your J to jump, but before you do make sure you practice the next few exercises.
This next exercise will help you find out which leg is your dominant leg so then you can jump easier. Stand upright and lean ford, which ever leg you put out to catch yourself will be your dominant leg (the leg you run in with and jump with.
This next exercise is called the scissor kick. Stand upright facing the mat side on next to the mat. Make sure the bar is not on the mat/poles. Next kick your dominant leg up off the ground first then lift the other one up. Now try doing this jump onto the mat

Ok now that we have the exercises out of the way it’s time for the real deal. Make sure you have stretched your legs before attempting high jump. Highjump is basically when you combine your J and scissor kick together. So start about 8 diagonale metres away from the mat. Now run up in a semicircle motion once you are facing cide on from the mat and about at the middle of it. Now lift Your definite dominant leg up and over the bar.

Hopefully you landed on the mat safely now get up off the mat and try again! don’t worry if you didn’t get over without knocking the bar off just keep trying and you will get better. Remember to practise your exercises.
